Could I depend on him during a medical emergency? Would he respect my decisions? If the relationship ended tomorrow, would I still be willing to have this man connected to my life through a child?

That is what I mean when I say: F#ck like you live in Georgia.

Evaluate every man you consider as if your life literally depends on it. Because one day—whether in the near future or years from now—it may.

He may be willing to have sex with you without being willing to accept what follows. A father can have legal responsibilities, including child support, but those obligations do not guarantee that he will show up or share the work of parenting.

You would carry the pregnancy and face its physical consequences. Before sharing your body, consider whether his actions demonstrate the responsibility that his words promise.

A Georgia Woman Was Arrested

On March 4, 2026, police arrested Alexia Moore, 31, in coastal Georgia. She was charged with murder and two drug offenses after allegedly taking misoprostol, a medication used in abortion care, and oxycodone while approximately 22–24 weeks pregnant. According to police records, she went to a hospital in December 2025, delivered, and the infant survived about an hour. These are allegations described in the case, not findings of guilt.

The murder charge was disputed. At a March hearing, the district attorney said police brought the charges without his office’s support. Both the prosecutor and the judge questioned the murder charge’s factual and legal basis.

Moore spent nearly three weeks in jail before being released on March 23. The judge set a total bond of $2,001: $1 for the murder charge and $1,000 for each drug charge.

Her arrest does not establish that Georgia law permits a murder conviction simply for having an abortion. An arrest, a charge, and a conviction are different things. No later disposition was verified for this article.

But her case demonstrates something women should understand: a disputed charge can still result in jail, court proceedings, and the need for legal representation.

What Georgia’s Abortion Restriction Means

Georgia generally prohibits abortion after embryonic cardiac activity can be detected, usually around six weeks of pregnancy. That can be before a woman knows she is pregnant. The law has exceptions, so six weeks is not an absolute cutoff in every circumstance.

Moore’s case involved allegations about a pregnancy at 22–24 weeks, an infant reportedly born alive, and drug possession. It should not be presented as though every woman who obtains an abortion in Georgia faces the same charge.

The accurate warning is that pregnancy and its outcome can expose a woman to investigation and attempted prosecution—even when the legal basis for the charges is contested.

A man saying, “We’ll figure it out,” does not explain how you will obtain care, pay for travel, or respond to a legal emergency.

You Can Conceive in California and Discover the Pregnancy in Georgia

Imagine having sex with a man in Los Angeles. A few days later, you travel to Georgia to visit family, start a job, or move.

You do not yet know you are pregnant. While there, you miss your period or take a pregnancy test.

Where you conceive and where you discover the pregnancy can be two different states.

Conceiving in California does not make California’s abortion protections govern care provided in Georgia. You may discover the pregnancy after Georgia’s general cutoff and need to arrange care elsewhere if you do not qualify for an exception.

That does not mean you must remain in Georgia and give birth. But arranging care elsewhere may require transportation, money, time off, childcare, and somewhere to stay.

Would the man you slept with help you navigate that situation? Would he contribute and respect your decision—or leave you to manage it alone?

How Many Women Does This Happen To?

There is no reliable count identified for this exact scenario. CDC abortion surveillance tracks women’s residence and where abortions occur. It does not establish where they conceived, where they first discovered the pregnancy, or whether they traveled or moved between those events.

Moore’s case also does not establish that she conceived in California or traveled from a state with abortion access. Her arrest and the interstate pregnancy scenario are separate examples.

The possibility deserves consideration without inventing a statistic.

Look at the Man in Front of You

Chemistry can make a man feel right for tonight. Pregnancy asks whether he is a man you can depend on afterward.

Watch his behavior.

Does he respect your boundaries? Will he participate in preventing pregnancy, or does he treat contraception as your responsibility? Can you discuss pregnancy openly? Does he show up when something is inconvenient?

A man who pressures you to have unprotected sex is already showing you how he handles your wellbeing.

A man who says, “We’ll figure it out,” should be able to explain what that means.

Who would attend appointments? Who would contribute financially? Who would care for a child? What happens if you disagree about the pregnancy?

A promise made in bed is not a plan.

Would You Choose Him as a Father?

You may want children someday without wanting children with this man.

You may love him and still recognize that he would be an unreliable coparent.

Be honest about that.

Ask yourself:

Would I choose this man as my child’s father?

Would I trust him if I were sick, frightened, or unable to work?

Would he support me without trying to control me?

If he disappeared, what support would I have?

Am I accepting a reproductive risk because I am afraid he will leave if I set a boundary?

You do not owe a man access to your body to keep his attention.

Celibacy Is Also a Choice

You can choose celibacy—for now, for a season, or indefinitely. You do not have to keep having sex while hoping the man, the circumstances, or your own uncertainty will change.

You can want affection, companionship, and love while deciding that sex is not a risk you want to take right now.

If you do not want to become pregnant, are unsure about the man you are seeing, or are not prepared for what a pregnancy could mean, choosing to abstain from sex that can cause pregnancy is a valid option.

You do not need to justify that decision. You can say:

“I am choosing celibacy because I am protecting my health, my peace, and my future.”

Pay attention to his response. Does he respect your boundary, or does he bargain, guilt you, threaten to leave, or keep testing it? His response tells you something important about whether he respects your decisions.

Celibacy is a personal choice, not a measure of a woman’s worth. Women who have sex still deserve respect, healthcare, and support. But you deserve to know that waiting—or choosing not to have sex at all—is an option.

You do not owe a man sex to prove your love or keep his attention. Your future is a sufficient reason to pause.

Make a Plan That Matches Your Intentions

If you do not want a pregnancy, give prevention the attention that decision deserves. Discuss contraception with a qualified healthcare professional, understand your chosen method, and make sure the man you are sleeping with respects the plan.

If you would welcome a pregnancy, ask whether he shares that intention and is prepared to participate.

If you choose celibacy, decide what that boundary means for you and communicate it clearly. You can reconsider your choices on your own terms, without pressure.

Planning cannot guarantee an outcome. Pregnancy can happen despite precautions, and a man can change after making promises. Becoming pregnant does not mean a woman failed to protect herself.

Thinking ahead still gives you time to identify concerns, set boundaries, and arrange support. Before traveling or moving, consider what care would be available if you discovered a pregnancy at your destination.

F#ck Like Your Future Matters

As a doula, my job is to tell you the truth about whatever path you are on. That includes the possible benefits, the risks, and the circumstances that can make your choices harder.

Sex can offer pleasure, closeness, and connection. It can also lead to a pregnancy that affects your health, finances, relationships, and future.

Look at the man you are choosing. Look at his actions. Consider the laws where you live and where you may travel.

Then ask yourself:

“If pregnancy happens, is this a man I would willingly build that future with—and what is my plan if he does not show up?”

And if your answer is that you are not ready to take that risk, you can choose to wait.

F#ck like you live in Georgia.

Choose with your future in mind before pregnancy makes the question urgent.

Before you have sex with a man, ask yourself: If I became pregnant by this man, would I trust him with what comes next?
